I arrived in the city late Saturday night, and after trekking at least a mile around the airport with 4 bags (only dropped them twice), I got a cab to my apartment (and thanks to GPS, I was able to give the driver accurate directions). Much to my surprise, the fold-able Japanese bed I bought for the apartment had already arrived, so I didn't have to make a nest out of my clothes to sleep on! I'm living with two other rad musicians, Sarah and Joe; we all share a love for contemporary music and ethnomusicology, so I think things will work out well.
Yesterday I walked through Prospect Park and then was somehow able to navigate back to the apartment via the subway. Thank you, Jesus, that I happened to stumble into a station that sold metro cards.
I feel very "New York" as I'm currently writing this sitting at the window bar of an adorable cafe called Lark. I may also be enjoying a juice box. And listening to a flute and electronics piece. Huzzah for free wifi.
Our first Studio class with Robert will be later this week, and I will post again after my brain has been stuffed with flute things!
