Sectionals and Masterclasses
Sectionals or masterclasses are based around a group experience. These classes typically occur as part of a band program and can be useful in approaching a variety of
flute-related topics, such as breathing, tone and technique, practicing, repertoire, overall wellness (health, journaling, etc.), and the college application process. Generally, students are expected to bring their flutes to these classes and to participate as much as possible. This is also a great chance to work on group music with great attention to detail. Teaching Philosophy
From Anne-Marie:
"I believe the goal of education is to open minds and allow students to then think independently and form their own ideas. For musicians, this includes a variety of skills, such as the ability to communicate effectively, perform well, and present your ideas clearly; as a teacher, I help students get to this point by giving them a defined goal, but allowing freedom concerning how they approach accomplishing that goal. I may suggest a variety of possibilities, yet the students are also responsible for themselves along the way. I believe in the power of demonstration, of being able to explain things in different ways for various learning types, and in outside practice of discovering oneself through healthy habits (e.g. exercise, drawing, etc.) that will then benefit the student’s well-being and musical self. Above all, I aim to approach each student and situation with kindness."
